Bookmarks Pet: A tiny pet that tidies your bookmarks

Chrome Extension

Bookmarks Pet is a Chrome extension that tidies your bookmarks for you. A little pet cat wanders around and moves loose bookmarks into folders. I wanted a better way to display and organize bookmarks in Chrome, but I couldn't find a simple and satisfying solution. I designed Bookmarks Pet in Figma and built it using Claude Code.

How bookmarks are categorized

Bookmarks are organized using a simple pattern-matching system that compares key words in a bookmark's title and URL to existing folders. If no existing folder matches, it checks against 11 built-in categories to create a new folder. Bookmarks that remain unmatched are left alone.

Due to the simplicity of the system, some bookmarks may be moved to the wrong folder or go unorganized. I decided to make this tradeoff over integrating AI calls into the extension to keep it free to use.

Bringing the pet to life

To make the pet feel alive, I designed animations for various action and idle states.

Each action has its own status message that is displayed in the toolbar. These status messages give the pet a personality and tell the user what the pet is doing at any moment in time.

Settings and customization

You can customize your pet's behavior, name, and appearance, as well as folder colors. If you turn off auto-organize, your pet will just wander around the screen as a companion and leave your bookmarks untouched.

Stats

Finally, I designed a simple stats panel so you can see how many bookmarks your pet has organized and how many folders they've created.
